Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Awards
Applications - 2007-2008

Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Awards program is currently accepting applications for the 2008- 2009 school year. The application deadline for nominations in Connecticut is April 30, 2009.

This awards program is designed to recognize distinguished achievement in academics, leadership, or the arts, in children grades 3 through 6.

The Awards inspire children to achieve to their fullest potential, highlight high-ability students, and draw attention to the educational needs of our nation’s gifted and talented students.

The Nicholas Green Foundation was established by Maggie and Reg Green to honor the memory of their seven-year-old son Nicholas who was killed in a drive-by shooting while visiting Italy in 1994. The Greens paired with NAGC to start the Distinguished Student Awards because they wanted to recognize young people who are working hard to make the most of their lives and develop their unique gifts and talents, and who are about the age of Nicholas at the time of his death.

One child in each state may be named a Nicholas Green Distinguished Student and each winner receives a $500 U.S. savings bond and an

NAGC Certificate of Excellence. Eligible students may be nominated by parents, teachers, students or community/civic groups.

For further information or nominate a child, Contact Mrs. Mody lmody@ci.stamford.ct.us  or visit the CAG website at www.ctgifted.org/nicholasgreenaward.htm.

Minds in Motion

While Connecticut is currently still in the midst of winter’s icy grip, the coming spring brings more than melting snow and budding trees. Spring also signifies the return of CAG’s signature enrichment program: Minds in Motion! This year CAG will be offering five different programs across the state, including first time events in Trumbull and Middletown.  Information on all the Minds in Motion events below, including event schedules, directions, and downloadable registration forms, can be found at the CAG website, www.ctgifted.org.

Minds on Location Returns n Location Returns

After a few years' hiatus, Minds On Location (MOL) has returned with three sold out events since November! If you are not familiar with Minds On Location, it is similar to our ever-popular Minds In Motion with an important distinction. Minds On Location events provide unique opportunities for gifted children to explore and create on-site at Connecticut’s arts, science and cultural institutions.  http://www.graphicmail.com/new/viewnewsletter2.aspx?SID=0&SiteID=15376&NewsletterID=353667
