BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO ALL THE MEMBERS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE WILD THINGS!!!!

THANK YOU FOR THE AMAZING SHOW!!! The original production written and directed by Alex Cobb, based on "Romeo and Juliet” and "West Side Story" debuted last week at Cloonan Middle School. The Wild Things was a new story of love, passion and a will to survive and was set in the 19th century, with a modern day twist. Two rival gangs were fighting over the right to claim the "junkyard" and their territory and one young lady (our Maria) was fighting for a place in Romeo's heart.  Thank you to everyone that helped bring this show to life!  This impressive and memorizing show will forever leave a lasting impression in our memory. Please click on "Play Production" to see more photos from the play.

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

SPEF took 35 students from the Stamford Mentoring Program at Cloonan Middle School on a field trip to the Mill River Park.  They were met at the park by mentors and students in Dr. Monica Miller’s Service Learning Class.  This is was the third activity Dr. Miller’s class has participated in with students in the Mentoring Program this semester.  One of the UConn students, Cindy Newman, sent a thoughtful description of what the day meant to her.

In all, we had about 60 people working on a variety of projects to beautify the park.  Staff from the Mill River Collaborative spoke to the group before the work started about the history of the park, the scope of the long term project and the importance of keeping the park area  clean in order to bring birds, fish and wildlife back into their natural habitat.  They did a great job of coordinating the various projects and making sure our volunteers had all the tools they needed.  Our friend Christina Chiarelli, from ItsRelevant.com, was on hand to capture the spirit of the day.

What is our School Improvement Plan?

Every year each of the Stamford Public Schools develops a unique plan for targeting and improving student achievement. These plans are developed in alignment with the Strategic District Improvement Plan which has been submitted to the state. Here is Cloonan's SIP along with remarks which I made to the Board of Education Curriculum Committee at their meeting on November 15. As we go through the year this plan will be adjusted as necessary based on data we develop from our students' performance.

What is Efficacy and how does it apply to my child?

Efficacy is an important part of the work we do to develop our young people. It is also important that we know and understand your point of view as parents on this important concept. We have been provided a survey for Parents to help us understand what we do and how the work is perceived. Please participate in this online survey by following the hyperlink. Here are instructions for completing the survey. Thank you.

Cloonan Takes a Stand

Cloonan’s Anti-Bullying Pledge

I’m doing this for the better

Today and tomorrow

I know bullying is wrong

I won’t sit there and watch

I can’t bear anymore

I know that together we can stop this

I can make a change

Make a difference

And be a leader

In my life, bullying is not ok

Bullying is bad

Bullying hurts, I can stop it

Next time, I will

Smile at a stranger, Say a kind word

Make a new friend

And, make Cloonan a Bully-Free Zone.

A careless word may kindle strife,

a cruel word may wreck a life.

It only takes a minute to cause hurt,

but sometimes a life time to repair.

STUDENTS' PLEDGE

SAID WITH YOUR HAND OVER YOUR HEART:

I am a work in PROGRESS.

I’m not done LEARNING and

I’m not done GROWING.

I can get SMART and IMPROVE.

Being “smart” is not a gift but a REWARD,

If I WORK HARD and DON’T GIVE UP.

I will not fear MISTAKES.

I will ask for HELP today so that tomorrow,

I will be a STRONGER, more CONFIDENT person.

I BELIEVE in ME.
